Stevens Square Farmers Market Manager
Stevens Square Community Organization (SSCO) is bringing back the Stevens Square Farmers Market (SSFM) in 2026. We hope that the SSFM will run from June through September every Sunday (barring holidays and competing community events), from 12 to 3 PM. Each market will have up to 20 vendors, including farmers/growers, cottage and small businesses, artists, and more. SSCO is looking for a dedicated market manager who is passionate about food justice and supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs to help make our first farmers market season in five years a success.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with the hope that our market manager will be hired and onboarded by the end of May. The position is initially being offered for one season, with the possibility of annual renewal and role expansion depending on interest and capacity.
Job Description
This is a hybrid, part-time, seasonal 1099 contract position that will begin ASAP and go through October 2026.
Up to 30 hours per week, with an hourly rate of $25 per hour.
Responsibilities
Vendor Relations
Develop the desired market vendor mix and refine/optimize the mix throughout the season
Source vendors for markets, manage vendor application, selection, and curation process.
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships.
Provide a high level of customer service to vendors and ensure vendor satisfaction
Oversee quality control of vendors and their products, and ensure vendors have appropriate City of Minneapolis licenses to operate in the market.
Collect vendor fees and ensure payments are timely and accurate.
Volunteer & Operations Management
Oversee volunteers while the market is open.
Work closely with staff and volunteers to communicate ideas, identify potential problems, provide feedback, and co-create solutions.
Attend all markets during the market season.
Develop and implement a load-in/-out plan and schedule.
Schedule vendors and create market maps.
Oversee and assist with the setup and teardown of the market. Ensure the market area is clean during the market and after. Maintain and manage storage of market equipment.
Problem-solve and trouble-shoot as necessary during market hours.
Community Engagement
Provide a high level of customer service to deliver an enjoyable market experience for shoppers.
Assist the Communications, Outreach, and Operations manager with SSFM promotion.
Provide a monthly report to the SSCO Board of Directors regarding the SSFM.
Lead on the end-of-year community survey and report.
Administrative Duties
Attend weekly check-ins with other SSCO staff.
Ensure compliance with the City of Minneapolis’ farmers market rules and regulations.
Qualifications
Required
Be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and outgoing with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to work independently and in a team.
Be comfortable with physical activity, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
Desired
Have experience in community organizing.
Have experience in and/or an understanding of the food industry and economic development.
Skilled in conflict resolution and customer service.
